Exploring Destiny

Mark Twain's palm
Mark Twain's hand print from the book "Cheiro's Language Of The Hand"
Destiny is a fascinating subject and question: Are our lives predetermined or can we change our destiny at any given moment? There are many ways to approach and explore this question.  One way is through the study of palmistry.
I was introduced to palmistry through my parents and, more specifically the lectures of my father, Michio Kushi.  Among the many diverse and interesting subjects that he taught including macrobiotics, alchemy, spirituality, ancient and future worlds and so many other topics, one thing that peaked my personal interest in palmistry was the fact that I noticed then that I had and still have the longest life line on my right hand that I have ever seen on anyone.  “What does it mean?”, I thought to myself.  Does it mean that I am going to live a long time?  Being an extremely pragmatic and scientifically oriented person I did not take palmistry too seriously.  Yet the larger question of destiny always fascinated me and along with it, whether the lines in our hands can actually foretell our future.

William John Warner (a/k/a "Cheiro")
Palmistry and the reading of the hands is an ancient and traditional practice among the far eastern cultures of Japan, China and India. It was popularized in the West in the late 1800s by an Irish man, William John Warner, who studied palmistry in India and then called himself “Cheiro” (meaning “hand”) and dubbed a new science and art called “Cheiromancy.”  Since then many have introduced palm reading but the lack of scientific rigor has dismissed it to the stereotypical realm of charlatans and crystal ball readers at side show carnivals who prey upon a naive public. But it has gained a resurgence of popularity since the late 1960s to the present, along with the interest of the study of all things of ancient Eastern origin by Westerners that deal with the subject of destiny including the I-Ching, Oriental Astrology, Feng Shui and Face Reading.
The principle of palmistry is simple and is that our life and fortune or destiny is fully revealed in our hand including its shape and size, the length of fingers and the myriad of lines that are found on it.  The study of palmistry, however, can be life-long and never-ending, as with any discipline of this nature partly because it is built upon the discoveries of others and requires sifting through and re-evaluating catalogs of past subjective interpretations. I have only dabbled in it superficially and have approached it more from a question of how much of it is really valid science versus just speculation or subjective interpretation.  In other words, I was less interested in learning the details of palmistry and instead more curious to find out why it might work.  My reasoning was that by studying the “why” it might work then the details will naturally fall into place.  The following are some of my thoughts.
1.  The Clarity, Depth and Length Of  The Three Major Lines In Our Palm Are Formed During Our Fetal Period
Fists made by fetus
Fists made by fetus
We have three principle lines in our hand which are the life line (which encircles the thumb), the intellect  or head line (which starts at or near the life line  between the thumb and index finger) and the emotion or heart line (which starts at below the pinky and usually curves upward toward the index finger).  These three lines are formed and defined when we make a fist in our mother’s womb.  The clarity, depth and length of the lines depend on how strong and tight a fist we make.  The strength of the fist we make in the womb depends on the condition of the fetus which is directly related to the health of our mothers and is the direct result of what she is and has been eating and the social and natural environment and lifestyle she experiences.  A healthier baby will be more contracted, or yang, making a very strong fist, thus creating deep and long lines in his or her palm.  After birth these lines basically do not change, thus becoming indicators of our health during our fetal period.
Our fetal development sets our biological foundation which, in turn, determines our potential future for the rest of our life.  Does it accurately predict what will happen in the future?  I don’t think so.  It only tells us how healthy we were in our mother’s womb.  A person who has a deep and long life line may not necessarily live a long time while one who has a short and shallow one may live a very long life.  However, this does not invalidate the significance of these lines.  If a person is born with deep and long lines then there will be a tendency for this person to, because of their strong health, abuse it in the future, while, on the other hand, a person with weaker lines may become ill sooner and therefore begin to manage their lives much more carefully and, by doing so, live a long time.
2.  Vertical Lines (Fate, Health and Fortune) Running The Length Of The Palm Can Change Overtime
The vertical lines in our palms can gradually change overtime based on our life’s activity.  The harder and longer that one works and uses his or her hands then the deeper the lines become.  The vertical lines can get stronger or deeper, while the other lines mostly stay the same.  In palmistry, how lines appear  in relation to each other do make a difference in identifying a person’s destiny; for example,  where the lines meet and intersect and so forth.  It does not identify the actual scope, content and events of one’s life but the tendency in relation to other elements in of one’s life.  A person, for example could be extremely wealthy but it may not show up in the lines because their wealth may not be of any relevance to themselves and their life.  But, generally speaking, I have found that a long and deep straight vertical line that starts at the base of the palm and goes up to the ring or middle finger indicates a person who is or will be extremely successful and fortunate in life.  It shows a person whose life path is very steady and is not hampered or distracted by intellectual and emotional issues.
Note the long straight vertical line running through the center of Barack Obama's hand.
Note the long straight vertical line running through the center of Barack Obama's hand.
3.  Proportional Relative Measurements Matter; Not Actual Size
A wide palm is significant only in relation to the rest of the features of the hand. The length of the ring finger is significant in relation to the palm and the other fingers.  One study (reported by the BBC here) has revealed that digit ratios between ring and index fingers might be linked to the amount of testosterone a fetus received during pregnancy.  A longer ring finger indicates greater testosterone during fetal development and is commonly found among athletes and musicians (having to stay focused on precise physical timing) and other persons who lead an active physical life.  What is significant about this finding is that it scientifically confirms the fact that our natural tendencies can be revealed by looking at our hands.
4.   The Destiny Question
Can we see our fate in our hands?  Can we accurately pinpoint our death by studying our lines?  Can we change it?  The answer is relatively simple.  We are born with a certain biological foundation that was given to us by our parents.  To that extent our lives have character, potentiality and tendencies and has its limits.  But what is not determined is the scope and domain of our lives.  We can live life on grand scale or we can live it on a small scale.  Ignoring scale and scope, the life we lead will be generally the same based on our inherited biological conditions.  We can also change our destiny through hard work and carefully managing our health.  We will still face challenges that are predetermined by our inherited biology, but whether or not we survive them depends on the scope of the life we choose to lead and our own personal health management.
Palm reading is only one of a multitude of ways to see one’s health, biological foundation, limitations and potential and our possible destiny. One can also see it in the face, in bumps on the head (phrenology), and many more ways.  There may also be a way to see it through DNA analysis that is yet to be discovered.  There is a potential problem in studying subjects related to destiny and is that one can become too focused on details and by so doing lose their objectivity and common sense and end-up ignoring the more obvious and basic principles of change and free will.
We do have free will but our lives are limited, and to that extent, predetermined, by our inherited biological foundation, by the larger collective destiny of humanity and by the even larger destiny of the earth traveling through space all of which take precedence over our own lives.  Or rather, they are all part of our lives and although you and I may have the freedom to express ourselves differently on an individual level we are all part of one and the same destiny of this universe.  Or it could be expressed as Michio had said, “Our free will is nothing but the free will of the order of the universe.”

CHEIRO The most famous palmist, astrologer & numerologist

INTRODUCTION
Cheiro is regarded as the leading model in palmistry. He is the most famous and popular palmist of the world, of all times. In fact it is probably only because of Cheiro that so many people have even heard about Palmistry.
BIRTH
Cheiro was born on November 1, 1866 at 10:53 LMT in Dublin, Ireland. Some historians are also of the view that he was born in Bray, Ireland.
PARENTS
It is said that his mother was a French lady, while his father was a Greek man. Some historians are also of the view that he was a Roman.
ORIGINAL NAME
Cheiro went by many names in his life like Count Louis Hamon and William John Warner and Count Leigh de Hamong. The name on Cheiro's birth certificate was written as William John Warner. His name “Cheiro” is taken from the word cheiromancy meaning “Palmistry.
CHILDHOOD
There were many tales about Cheiro's childhood and among those the most popular was that during his childhood he was kidnapped by the gypsies, who wanted to take advantage of his gifted mystical skills.
LEARNING EXPERIENCE
In his search of palmistry knowledge Cheiro travelled extensively in East and particularly India. Cheiro admitted that he mainly learnt the art of Palmistry from Indian Brahmans. Palmistry was practiced and followed by the Joshi caste in the north-west province of India from ancient times to the date. There Cheiro met with many knowledgeable men and got the chance of reading some of the most secret text on palmistry. He also got the opportunity to read an extremely ancient and rare book on palmistry. This book was one of the greatest treasures of the few Brahmans, only who possessed and understood it at that time.
SKILLS & EXPERTISES
Cheiro was really master of reading not only personality and character, but also the past, present and future of an individual, with great accuracy.
OTHER THAN PALMISTRY CAREERS
Cheiro provided his handprint in his book "The Language of The Hand" where we can see a double brain line on his right hand, which tells the secret of a man who has dual personality. That is why he has more than one name and profession.
Cheiro worked as a journalist, ran a champagne business, owned two French newspapers and ran a chemical factory in Ireland. When Cheiro went to England he also did small jobs in theatre. When he went to California he also did some scriptwriting for Hollywood films.
PALMISTRY CAREER
Cheiros palmistry office was in London. He was so famous in London at that time that even those people who did not have believe in palmistry, came to show their hands to him. After some years of palmistry practice in London, Cheiro shifted his office to Hollywood in 1930, where he was dealing more than 20 clients per day.
Cheiro considered himself very much as a gifted psychic and intuitive person and liked to present himself in that way. He also had close associations with various spiritualist groups and psychic mediums of that time.
There is no doubt that he wanted to create a sense of mystery around him and it was also reflecting in the decoration and furnishing of his palmistry office.
CHEIRO’S CLIENTS
Cheiro had a wide range of European and American clients including many prominent people and famous celebrities of that time like:
These were just a few of those notable people who consulted Cheiro for Palm reading. Chamberlain also had his hand reading in a private room in the House of Commons, to attest the knowledge and skills of Cheiro.
CHEIRO’S GUEST BOOK
Cheiro used to take the comments of his clients in a guests’ book which he always kept with him for this purpose. He used to ask his clients to make comments about their experience of hand reading with him in that guests’ book.
COMMENTS OF SOME FAMOUS CLIENTS
Melba wrote in Cheiro’s guest book: "Cheiro you are wonderful - what more can I say?"
Mark Twain (who was basically a nonbeliever of palmistry) wrote in Cheiro's visitor's book: "Cheiro has exposed my character to me with humiliating accuracy. I ought not to confess his accuracy; still I am moved to do so. Mark Twain"
Mark Twain was so impressed by the accuracy of Cheiro's work that he made use of  palmistry in a story "Pudd'n Head Wilson" and got great success.
CHEIRO’S PROVEN PREDICTIONS (Personal)
Cheiro made some amazingly accurate personal predictions about the world’s most famous and respectable people, like:
  1. The death of Queen Victoria
  2. The assassination of King Umberto of Italy
  3. The day, month and year of the death of King Edward VII
  4. The death of Lord Kitcheners
  5. The downfall of Czar of Russia and massacre of him and all his immediate family
  6. The attack on Shah of Persia
  7. The Prince of Wales, later to be Edward VIII. "He predicted that it is within the bounds of possibility that The Prince of Wales will fall victim to a devastating love affair. If it happens, I predict that the Prince will give up everything for his love, even the chance of being crowned”. Edward VIII did indeed give up his throne for his love "Wallis Simpson" and became the Duke of Windsor
CHEIRO’S PROVEN PREDICTIONS (International)
Cheiro also made some amazingly accurate national and international predictions like:
  1. The Boer War (1899-1902)
  2. World War 1 (1914-1918)
  3. The Great Depression (1926-1930)
He predicted that adverse conditions would hit the world and unemployment would rise to the highest level in all the countries of the world. Although he did not predict the exact year of this happening, yet he predict the stock market crash of 1929 that brought the Great Depression.

  4. Freedom and separation of India & Pakistan (1947)
He predicted that India would gain her freedom, but "religious difference will divide that country between Hindus and the Muslims". In 1947 India gain independence but was also divided into Hindu and Muslim states of India and Pakistan.

  5. Dictatorship in Spain (1939-1975)
He predicted that Spain would have a dictator and "Francisco Franco" a military general became the head of state of Spain.

  6. Jews' control over Palestine (1948)
He predicted that Palestine would be returned to the Jews and in 1948, Israel announced her independence.

PALMISTRY AND SIMIAN LINES(Source:Ajit Vadakayil)

Most people have two major transverse lines in the upper half of the palm. In Palmistry and Hand Analysis these are called the Heart Line and the Head Line.

Hand with simian line. When the Heart Line and Head Line are fused together, only one major line is present, and it extends all the way across the hand from edge to edge. This is called a "Simian Line", or "Simian Crease". Medical references call it the "proximal transverse palmar crease" or "single palmar crease".
The purest form of simian line is where only one line cuts across the hand and there is no indication of it containing more than one line. However, there are many variations between the two examples above. Some of these possible variations are shown below along with the rules for hand analysis.
Simian line with heart energy according to palm reading and palmistryThis is not a pure simian line but rather a strong heart line that has captured the head line. This person will operate with nearly all heart and emotional energy and will have very little logic and mental power for making decisions and taking actions. Emotions will strongly rule every activity.
Simian line with head energy according to palm reading and palmistryThis is not a pure simian line but rather a strong head line (blue) that has captured the heart line (red). This person will operate with nearly all head energy and will have very little emotional power for making decisions and taking actions. Logic, with little emotion, will strongly rule every activity.
Simian line with some heart and head line according to palm reading and palmistryThis hand shows a piece of a heart line (1) and piece of a head line (2). Most likely only one of these pieces would be present on a hand with a simian line. Whichever piece is present would indicate that there is some of that energy strongly affecting all activities. For example, if only the simian line plus a piece of heart line (1) was present then this person's simian line would have considerable influence from heart and emotional tendencies. A piece of head line (2) would lend considerable logic and mental influence.
Simian line either heart or head line according to palm reading and palmistryThis hand does not mean there are two simian lines possible. It just indicates that a high simian line (A) or a low simian line (B) is possible. It is quite difficult to discern which type one has if the line is somewhere in between the high and low positions. In any case, the higher the simian line is on the palm, the more emotional energy is affecting all activities. The lower the simian line is on the palm, the more logic and mental powers affect all activities.
The name "simian" was adopted many years ago and comes from the fact that some monkeys have only one crease in their palm.
Approximately 4% of Caucasians have this line on at least one hand. Approximately 13% of all Asians have it on at least one hand. It is even rarer to have this line on both hands.

The Simian Line and Medical Interest

A computer search of the medical literature reveals numerous attempts to link dermatoglyphics (skin markings) to medical disorders. At least fourteen chromosomal abnormalities are listed in the medical literature that have a high correlation (up to 84%) with the occurrence of a Simian Line. Down Syndrome is one of these diseases due to a chromosome abnormality. Does that mean that every person with a Simian Line is likely to have something medically wrong with them? No! There are many people with Simian Lines that do not have more than the average medical problems.
[NOTE: An informal and unscientific survey on this web site for people with one or more simian lines indicates that the majority of the surveyors do not have more than the normal physical problems. You can see the results for all the questions in graphic form here.]
Palm readers and Hand Analysts have observed over the years some common traits in people with Simian Lines on one or both hands. [This pertains to those people who have no apparent medical problems.] People with Simian Lines generally live their life differently than most other people who do not have Simian Lines. Not necessarily living better nor worse. Just living more intensely with an undercurrent of uneasiness. It is interesting that a number of well known people with a Simian Line have made a positive contribution to history. They include British Prime Minister Tony Blair (both hands), former Russian President Nikita Kruchev, writers John Steinbeck and Henry Miller, to name some well documented cases.

My Personal Observations on the Simian Line

I have been doing Past Life Regressions since 1975 and when I did a hypnotic Past Life Regression with two individuals who had simian lines, we discovered an interesting connection to past lives concerning their simian lines. I have documented some of my more interesting findings in the second edition of my ebook, "Secrets of Hand Analysis".
Here are 80 pictures of various type simian lines, if you are interested in comparing your hands.
Many thanks to the volunteers who graciously sent their hand images. No analysis is made or intended. The pictures are there just to show the different types of simian lines in case you are wondering if you have a real simian line.

Palmistry as 7000 year old Vedic Indian origins. A Irish con man by the name of  William John Warner ( Cheiro ) came to India and stayed in the outhouse of my colleague's grandfather , a Saraswat Brahmin for two years and learnt the art. He then went back and made a fortune in the West.

His poor understanding of the science which he projected in his books has literally sunk this Vedic science involving the morphogenetic consciousness field.
The father of medicine Charaka , used palmistry for diagnosis. The palm lines are rivers of energy, moving through various glands and areas of consciousness. Each main line has an elementary quality, which reflects a particular form of energetic current within a person.
There are very few competent palmists nowdays--most of them are pretenders and charlatans. Morphogenetic fields help to differentiate cells and form biological systems. Every line of the palm is etched by this field while the baby is in the mother's womb based on past karma and karmic inheritance .
Morphogenetic fields are not material, but are more like biological blueprints giving birth to various forms. They carry encoded organizational information. A visible attribute of consciousness is an energetic field that governs the shaping of organisms. Morphogenesis is a scientific term to explain this very shaping of tissues, organs, and entire organisms.

All life forms are connected by "morphic fields" or strong intertwined energetic connections. Forces of attraction cause the particles to come together to form nuclei with electrons orbiting around them giving the illusion of matter. These atoms are attracted together to form molecules.

Molecules are brought together by organizing forces inherent in the particular morphogenetic field of that being or material, causing the creation of DNA, cells, tissue, organs, systems, organisms, societies and on a larger scale, planets, solar systems, galaxies and universes. All of this from the one and only quantum field of consciousness .
This intelligent field decides why a electron should remain in a particular orbit.  Electrons can change position instantly without taking time. They suddenly appear in another orbit of higher or lower energy or distance from the nucleus.

Stupid Newton pushed consciousness into the realm of religion and mysticism. Scientists who wanted to factor consciousness in were chucked out of the scientific community and the peer reviewed magazines controlled by free masons made them pariahs.

With the advent of quantum science we now know what great injustice was done. The classical physics of Newton takes a material perspective in which the Universe is composed of discrete building blocks, solid and unchangeable.

Quantum physics takes a spiritual perspective in which there are no separate parts, in which everything is fluid and always changing. In the quantum world there are no causes. Matter is NOT a inert substance. It is conscious and active. Experts in organic and inorganic chemistry know what I mean..
Monkeys have only one crease in their palm, hence the term Simian line. Very few people have such a line on both hands.

If you have such a line only on one hand, you don't fall in the Simian line category.

Approximately 4% of Caucasians and 13% of all Asians have it on at least one hand. If the Simian Line is found on the right hand only,  physical desires can get out of control.  60% of people who have simian lines on both hands have Down's syndrome.
We have a separate heart and head line on our palms. When they merge together and run as a single line , it is called a simian line.

When a person has it on both the palms and is NOT a Down Syndrome victim-- he must understand that he has a special condition where his emotional mental and emotional energies work together.

Simian type is not necessarily a negative trait.  But usually such people tend to be a law unto themselves. They find it hard to distinguish right from wrong.
It is usually difficult for a person with a Simian line to balance their emotions with logic.
This person is driven by instinct and belief,  and may be capable of extreme reactions. Many serial killers and sociopaths have simian lines on both hands. They have great tenacity of purpose and love hard work
If the simian line is set low on the hand, is indicates strong emotional compulsions that overrides common sense . If it is set higher on the hand, the person is  more able to reason with himself  and can therefore behave with greater objectivity.
People with Simian Lines are filled with restless energy. There are no half measures with them and they give everything a full blooded shot with full gusto and drive..  It is a bit difficult  to manipulate him as his beliefs are strong and hence he will stick to his guns.

They can be unpredictable. They find it hard to form deep relationships with others. They do not care for social niceties and  popularity medals. They are loyal and expect loyalty in return. These people are survivors in the original sense.
They are intense people and totally dedicated to their purpose. Their ability to focus on a  creative project is awesome. They are usually extremists with extreme tempers and always have an under current of uneasiness within them.

When it comes to passion, feelings can get out of perspective because emotional reactions can swamp and overwhelm reasoning. Such people must marry docile and understanding women. People with this line can find some aspects of relating to others problematic.

They will not easily adhere to the usual norms of society.   In extreme cases, they will be completely ruled by passions and instincts and the law of the jungle will apply, hence the name given to the line. They tend to think in absolutes and to be very focused on what interests them to the exclusion of other important factors.

Simian line people find it difficult to lead a  balanced life.  They focus entirely on either their work or their relationship, or on something else in a lop sided manner. They hold on to old resentments and then explode in a tantrum or floods of tears.

Such people can be very obstinate. The  single-mindedness such people possess can diverted to  sporting activities, and in a creative field that requires little input from others. They tend to be emotionally and psychologically closed people, socially awkward, with one-track minds .

Religious fanatics and criminals also have disproportionately high numbers of simian lines, as per statistics.  Their intense focus can blind them to the feelings of others.

British PM had simian lines on both his palms,no wonder Britain spend 1800 English pounds of tax payer money for his cosmetics from 1999 to 2005.  Even vain women do NOT spend so much.

They often become activists and champions of lost causes. They will carry out their agenda heedless of the resistance met . When they make a change, they do it immediately and the change is usually huge, callous to human suffering. .

They have only right or wrong and nothing in between. Black and white thinking with no space for grey is dangerous for a political leader.

People with this line fight twice as hard. If these tunnel visioned perfectionists are brain washed and manipulated to positions of power by rich vested moneybag Big Brother-- only God can save this planet!
